The IKEA® Visa® credit card * earns reward dollars that can be redeemed for reward certificates eligible for use toward IKEA purchases. The reward dollars and certificates expire quickly and are only redeemable in $15 increments. But if you frequent IKEA and plan to buy more than meatballs, you may benefit from heavy IKEA-spend rewards with no assembly required.
IKEA® Visa® credit card *Our ratings take into account the card’s rewards, fees, rates along with the card’s category. All ratings are determined solely by our editorial team.
Welcome Bonus $25 off first IKEA purchase + $25 bonus IKEA Reward Dollars Annual Fee Regular APR 21.99% variable Credit ScoreCredit Score ranges are based on FICO® credit scoring. This is just one scoring method and a credit card issuer may use another method when considering your application. These are provided as guidelines only and approval is not guaranteed.
$25 off your first IKEA purchase of $25 or more instantly when you open and use your IKEA Visa Credit Card immediately upon approval in-store or receive a statement credit when you open and use your IKEA Visa Credit Card immediately upon approval online. Plus, $25 Bonus IKEA Reward Dollars when you spend $500 or more outside of IKEA, Traemand and TaskRabbit within the first 90 days of account opening with your card.
The IKEA® Visa® credit card * has a $0 annual fee and earns 5% back in rewards on IKEA purchases, including Traemand installation and TaskRabbit assembly services, 3% back in rewards on dining, grocery stores and utility purchases and 1% back in rewards on all other purchases made with your IKEA Visa credit card. Rewards are redeemable only for purchases through IKEA. Reward dollars earned expire 36 months after posting to your account, and reward certificates expire a mere 90 days from the date they are issued. If you’re an occasional IKEA shopper you may not even have a chance to use your earnings.
The welcome bonus leaves much to be desired: $25 off first IKEA purchase of $25 or more instantly after using the card immediately upon approval in-store or receive a statement credit after using the card immediately upon approval online. Plus, $25 Bonus IKEA Reward Dollars after spending $500 or more outside of IKEA, Traemand and TaskRabbit within the first 90 days of account opening. The $50 total reward bonus is barely enough to fund your monthly meatball supply run.
With IKEA-related 0% introductory APR financing accessible only through a different card, the IKEA Projekt Card, the IKEA Visa offers no major additional benefits. Though earning bonus rewards on utilities is rarely offered on credit cards, be aware that many utility companies pass their credit card transaction fees directly on to the consumer, and paying with a bank account may save more money than rewards are worth.

Earn a $200 cash rewards bonus after spending $500 in purchases in the first 3 monthsThe IKEA Visa credit card earns 5% back in rewards on IKEA purchases, including Traemand installation and TaskRabbit assembly services, 3% back in rewards on dining, grocery stores and utility purchases and 1% back in rewards on all other purchases made with your IKEA Visa credit card. Reward dollars expire 36 months after they’re posted to your account. Reward Certificates expire 90 days after issue. Reward dollars are not earned on any purchases made using third-party payment accounts such as Venmo or PayPal. If your account is closed, any unused reward dollars will be forfeited.
The IKEA Visa credit card also includes a welcome bonus: $25 off first IKEA purchase of $25 or more instantly after using the card immediately upon approval in-store or receive a statement credit after using the card immediately upon approval online. Plus, $25 Bonus IKEA Reward Dollars after spending $500 or more outside of IKEA, Traemand and TaskRabbit within the first 90 days of account opening.
Accrued Reward Dollars are redeemed for IKEA Reward Certificates in $15 increments. Every $15 in rewards is automatically redeemed for a reward certificate that may be used at IKEA. If your reward account balance is $44, you will be issued two certificates for $15 each and the other $14 will stay in your account until at least $15 is reached. Any unused dollars on a certificate will be forfeited, as a certificate may only be used once.
To determine the rewards potential of the IKEA® Visa® credit card * we consider what an average household might spend on a credit card each year. Forbes Advisor uses data from various government agencies to determine baseline income and spending averages across various categories. Our estimated 70th percentile household brings in $118,438 annually and has $39,337 in annual spending that can reasonably be charged to credit cards.
We estimate an IKEA-focused household will spend about $2,500 annually at IKEA or TaskRabbit to earn $125 in IKEA Reward Dollars. An additional $4,622 on dining, $7,243 at grocery stores and $2,493 on utilities annually would total $14,358, earning $430.74 in IKEA Reward Dollars. This leaves a total of $22,479 in other purchases, which would result in about $224.79 of additional IKEA Reward Dollars.
All told, a total of $780.53 in IKEA Reward Dollars would be earned each year with this spending pattern. Since reward dollars are only turned into reward certificates in $15 increments, a cardholder would have 52 $15 IKEA Reward Certificates, with about $0.53 remaining in IKEA Reward Dollars.
The Citi Custom Cash® Card earns 5% cash back on purchases in a top eligible spend category up to the first $500 spent each billing cycle, 4% cash back on hotels, car rentals, and attractions booked on Citi Travel℠ portal through 6/30/2025 and 1% cash back on all other purchases. For home improvers leveraging the Custom Cash for maximum rewards each month and not planning to spend more than $500 per month at IKEA or other home improvement stores, the added ability to earn bonus category rewards at the 5% rate beyond IKEA may be appealing.
Since the IKEA Visa card’s rewards may only be redeemed toward IKEA-only reward certificates, in nearly all cases the Citi Custom Cash rewards are more useful since you can use cash any way you’d like. Neither card has much in terms of additional benefits, but the Citi Custom Cash does offer a 0% introductory APR for 15 months from date of account opening on purchases and from date of first transfer for balance transfers completed within 4 months of account opening. After that, the variable APR will be 19.24% - 29.24%, based on creditworthiness. There is also a balance transfer fee of 5% of each balance transfer; $5 minimum. For IKEA-specific 0% intro APRs, a separate card—the IKEA Projekt card—is required.
The Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card is a card for everyday spending, everywhere. The card earns 2% cash rewards on purchases. It also offers a $600 cellphone protection plan (with a $25 deductible) when the monthly cellphone bill is paid for with the card and a 0% intro APR for 12 months from account opening on purchases and qualifying balance transfers, then a 20.24%, 25.24%, or 29.99% variable APR applies. Balance transfers made within 120 days qualify for the intro rate and fee of 3% (min. $5) then a fee of up to 5% (min. $5) applies.
As a wider-use card, the Wells Fargo Active Cash presents a much more versatile option for most consumers. However, for those who frequent IKEA and are willing to track spending categories for the bonus rewards, these two cards could work well paired together.
For those shopping for furniture and decor who feel a store card will be more appropriate, yet can’t decide which store card to go with, the Capital One-issued Key Rewards Visa * offers rewards at seven stores across the Williams Sonoma Inc. family of brands. The card features similar rewards to the IKEA Visa as far as store-related rewards go, earning 5% back online and in stores across seven Williams-Sonoma, Inc. brands, 4% back at grocery stores and restaurants (excludes fast food) and 1% back on everything else.
Though it doesn’t deliver any other bonus categories, the Key Rewards Visa * does offer the benefit of free Williams Sonoma shipping and other store-specific benefits plus a 0% intro APR for 12 months on qualifying purchases of $750 or more at Williams-Sonoma, Inc. brands followed by a 30.24% variable APR on purchases and balance transfers, terms apply. If you’re set on a home-decor-related card, we’re confident you’ll find comfortable rewards and mediocre benefits with either card. Still, we’d recommend finding a more flexible card in either case unless you spend heavily with one of these brands.
The IKEA Visa credit card is designed for the frequent IKEA shopper spending their way out of the iconic, hygge-inspired couch and cabinet maze regularly. For most consumers, there’s guaranteed to be a better card with more flexible reward redemption options, better benefits and more usefulness in almost anything—including home improvement-related projects.
